A Praise of the Holy Ghost Who Makes Us Christ-Conscious
The Promise Before the Wind
Children, hear me—before the fire was seen, the Word was heard: the LORD spake, and the promise waited in holy silence.
For the Holy Ghost is not a mist of feeling, but God’s own Spirit, moving with purpose, as in the beginning when He “moved upon the face of the waters.” (Genesis 1:2)
And long before the upper room, the prophets leaned forward, listening for a day when Heaven would breathe inside clay.
“I will pour my spirit upon thy seed,” saith the LORD—so the thirsty ground would not be barren forever. (Isaiah 44:3)
“I will put my spirit within you,” saith the LORD—so stony hearts would learn to walk. (Ezekiel 36:27)
And Joel, beholding the latter rain, cried that God would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh—sons, daughters, old, young—so the name of the LORD would be called upon and honored. (Joel 2:28–32)
Even David, in his grief, trembled at the thought of losing that sweet Presence and prayed, “Take not thy holy spirit from me.” (Psalm 51:11)
So understand, children: the Holy Ghost is the Promise of the Father, not a novelty of men. (Luke 24:49)
He is holy, because He is God; and He is Spirit, because He works within, unseen yet sure, like wind that bends the cedars. (John 4:24)
He comes not to make you stare at power, but to make you bow at Christ—for “He shall glorify me,” saith Jesus. (John 16:14)
Hallelujah. Blessed be the name of Jesus.
The First Falling:
It was in Jerusalem, children—stone streets, crowded courts, the smell of dust and bread, the murmur of pilgrims under a bright sky.
It was in an upper room where prayer had worn the floor with knees, and waiting had made the air tender.
It was when the day of Pentecost was fully come, not half-come, not guessed at, but fulfilled—because God keeps time better than kings. (Acts 2:1)
And it was why? Because Jesus, risen and ascended, would not leave His own comfortless; because the gospel must go with more than human breath. (John 14:18; Acts 1:8)
And suddenly—children, hear the word “suddenly,” for Heaven does not always knock—
there came a sound “as of a rushing mighty wind,” and it filled all the house where they were sitting. (Acts 2:2)
Not a gentle sigh, but a holy roar; not a storm to destroy, but a wind to awaken.
You could feel it on the skin like cool water in summer heat; you could hear it like a vast unseen wing; you could taste awe, sharp as clean metal on the tongue.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. (Acts 2:3)
Fire—yet not to burn hair or beam, but to mark the heart with God’s claim.
Light—yet not to steal glory, but to point to the Lamb who is the Light of the world. (John 8:12)
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:4)
Mark it, children: being filled is not being made proud; it is being made available—a cup for God’s pouring. (Ephesians 5:18)
For the Holy Ghost is the Comforter, sent in Jesus’ name, to teach and to bring Christ’s words to remembrance. (John 14:26)
He is the Spirit of truth, not the spirit of confusion; He guides into all truth, and truth has a face—Jesus. (John 16:13; John 14:6)
He is the witness that Jesus is Lord, for no man can truly say it “but by the Holy Ghost.” (1 Corinthians 12:3)
Hallelujah—Jesus is risen. Hallelujah—Jesus is Lord.
The Tongues: Many Nations, One Christ
And devout men out of every nation under heaven were dwelling at Jerusalem. (Acts 2:5)
And when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together—confounded not by darkness, but by light too bright for old assumptions. (Acts 2:6)
For every man heard them speak in his own language—the mercy of God, who does not despise the tongue of the poor or the accent of the far country. (Acts 2:6–8)
Now watch, children—watch the Holy Ghost move:
He does not come to make the apostles famous; He comes to make Christ known. (John 16:14)
He does not come to crown the speaker; He comes to crown the Savior.
עָלָה יֵשׁוּעַ לִימִין הָאָב.
Jesus is risen and exalted at the right hand of the Father.
Εὐλογητὸς ὁ Χριστός, ὁ Κύριος.
Blessed is Christ, the Lord.
Gloria in excelsis Jesu.
Glory in the highest to Jesus.
Jesús es Señor, aleluya.
Jesus is Lord, hallelujah.
يسوعُ هوَ الرَّبُّ، تَبارَكَ اسْمُهُ.
Jesus is the Lord—blessed be His name.
Yesu ni Bwana, halleluya.
Jesus is Lord, hallelujah.
यीशु ही उद्धारकर्ता है।
Jesus is the Savior.
耶稣是主，哈利路亚。
Jesus is Lord, hallelujah.
예수는 주님이시다, 할렐루야.
Jesus is Lord, hallelujah.
And still the meaning is one: Christ lifted, Christ preached, Christ trusted.
For that day the Holy Ghost fell, and Peter lifted his voice—not to advertise experience, but to preach the crucified and risen Son.
“Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved,” he cried, and the air itself seemed to ring like bronze struck true. (Acts 2:21)
And he preached Jesus—approved of God, slain by wicked hands, raised up, death loosed, Scripture fulfilled. (Acts 2:22–24)
And he declared that God had made that same Jesus, whom they crucified, both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)
Children, feel it: the crowd cut to the heart—like a plow in hard soil, like a knife that heals by opening what must be cleansed. (Acts 2:37)
For the Holy Ghost convicts of sin, and righteousness, and judgment—not to crush the repentant, but to drive the soul to Christ. (John 16:8)
And when they cried, “What shall we do?” mercy answered: repent, be baptized, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38)
Gift, children—gift. Not wage. Not trophy. Gift.
Hallelujah—gift of God. Hallelujah—name of Jesus.
What the Holy Ghost Is
Hear me, children—let every line teach and praise:
The Holy Ghost is God with us inwardly, sealing believers unto the day of redemption. (Ephesians 1:13; 4:30)
The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of adoption, making sons and daughters cry, “Abba, Father,” with holy certainty. (Romans 8:15–16)
The Holy Ghost is the giver of love, for “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 5:5)
The Holy Ghost is the sanctifier, turning us from the image of Adam toward the likeness of Christ, from glory to glory. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
The Holy Ghost is the power for witness, sending timid tongues into bold testimony: “unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
The Holy Ghost is the revealer of Christ, taking what is Christ’s and showing it unto us—so our eyes stay on Jesus. (John 16:14–15)
The Holy Ghost is the teacher of the Word, bringing remembrance and understanding—not new gospels, but the old gospel made living. (John 14:26; Galatians 1:8)
The Holy Ghost is holy fire, not for spectacle, but for purity; not for noise, but for obedience. (1 Peter 1:15–16; Jeremiah 20:9)
The Holy Ghost is the wind of God, free and sovereign—felt in the soul like breath returning to lungs long starved. (John 3:8)
Therefore, children, if you would know His fullness, do not chase smoke—chase Christ.
If you would honor His work, do not worship the gift—worship the Giver.
For He came not to make you Holy-Ghost-conscious as a mirror makes you self-conscious, but Christ-conscious as Scripture makes you God-conscious.
Hallelujah—Jesus at the center.
The Spirit Moves Through Lands: A River from Zion
Now see—now smell the sea salt as the gospel reaches coasts; hear the market cries in foreign streets; feel the sun on stone; taste the bread of strangers offered in peace.
For the Holy Ghost does not stop at one room; He travels in testimony, and He carries Christ across borders without needing a passport. (Acts 1:8)
Italia, Roma: “Gesù Cristo è il Signore.”
Italy, Rome: Jesus Christ is the Lord.
France: “Jésus est vivant; alléluia.”
France: Jesus is alive; hallelujah.
Deutschland: “Jesus Christus herrscht.”
Germany: Jesus Christ reigns.
Brasil: “Glória a Deus, Jesus salva!”
Brazil: Glory to God—Jesus saves!
Nigeria: “Yesu Kristi ne Ubangiji.”
Nigeria: Jesus Christ is Lord.
Egypt: “يسوع هو الطريق والحق والحياة.”
Egypt: Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. (John 14:6)
India: “यीशु का नाम ऊँचा हो।”
India: Let the name of Jesus be lifted high.
Philippines: “Purihin si Jesus, Aleluya!”
Philippines: Praise Jesus, hallelujah!
日本: “イエスは主です、ハレルヤ。”
Japan: Jesus is Lord—hallelujah.
Україна: “Ісус — Господь; слава Йому.”
Ukraine: Jesus is Lord; glory to Him.
And in every tongue the Holy Ghost keeps His holy habit: He magnifies the Son. (John 16:14)
He gathers the scattered; He comforts the broken; He strengthens the weak; He rebukes the proud; He exalts Christ alone.
He makes deserts hear singing and prisons hear praise, until midnight feels like morning. (Acts 16:25)
He makes the Word sweet as honey and sharp as a sword—sweet to heal, sharp to sever lies. (Psalm 119:103; Hebrews 4:12)
Children, listen: the Holy Ghost is not a rumor—He is the living witness of the living Christ.
And where He is welcomed, Jesus is treasured; where Jesus is treasured, sin loses its throne. (Romans 6:14)
Hallelujah—Jesus. Hallelujah—King.
A Stern Warning: Do Not Blaspheme the Holy Ghost
Now children—be still. Let the room quiet like snow falling.
Because love must warn, and reverence must speak plainly.
Jesus said, “All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.” (Matthew 12:31)
And again: “Whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” (Matthew 12:32)
And Mark tells why this warning burned so bright: because some looked at the holy work of God and called it unclean. (Mark 3:28–30)
So understand, children: this is not the trembling sinner crying for mercy—this is the hardened heart calling light darkness with settled hatred.
This is the mouth that sees Christ’s witness and spits on it; that hears the Spirit’s testimony and brands it a lie.
This is why it is fearful: because it is a refusal of the very Witness that points you to the only Savior. (John 16:14)
Therefore, “Grieve not the holy Spirit of God,” and do not treat His holiness as a toy. (Ephesians 4:30)
Do not trample grace, nor do despite unto the Spirit of grace. (Hebrews 10:29)
Tremble at God’s Word, children, and speak of holy things with clean lips. (Isaiah 66:2)
Yet hear mercy, too: while it is called Today, harden not your hearts. (Hebrews 3:15)
For if you confess your need, Christ is able to save to the uttermost. (Hebrews 7:25)
Run to Jesus—run—and the Spirit will not hide Christ from you; He will reveal Him.
Hallelujah—mercy. Hallelujah—truth.
The Spirit’s Joy Is Jesus
Now lift up your eyes, children—not inward to pride, not outward to show, but upward to the throne.
For the Holy Ghost came like wind, yet He leaves you looking at the Lamb.
He came like fire, yet He leaves you loving holiness.
He came with tongues, yet He leaves you confessing one Name above every name. (Philippians 2:9–11)
He came to dwell, yet He leaves you longing for the day when faith becomes sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Blessed be the Father, who promised.
Blessed be the Son, who purchased with blood. (Revelation 5:9)
Blessed be the Holy Ghost, who applies, seals, teaches, comforts, convicts, empowers—
and in every holy act whispers the same bright truth: Look unto Jesus. (Hebrews 12:2)
Gloria a Dios.
Glory to God.
Alleluia.
Praise ye the LORD.
Hallelujah—Jesus.
Hallelujah—Jesus.
